The old handshake deal I overheard at a diner on Gratiot saved me $1,200
I was sitting next to two facility managers talking about how they never sign contracts over $500 without a written scope, and it made me realize I'd been getting burned by verbal promises on my last three cleaning jobs, so now I ask every vendor for a line-item quote before I even let them in the building... has anyone else found that the smaller companies push back harder on that?
I get why the line-item quote thing feels safer but honestly some of the smaller crews push back because they're just busy doing the work, not sitting at a desk writing up paperwork. The guy who cleans my building gives me a price and sticks to it, and he's never once tried to tack on extra fees after the fact. Big companies will hand you a fancy quote and still nickel and dime you later, so the paper isn't always the real protection.
