TIL a 'free' building inspection cost me $450

Last month I got a flyer for a free commercial property inspection in Detroit. Guy said he'd check my roof and HVAC for any issues. I figured why not, let him in. He spent 20 minutes walking around then handed me a report saying I needed $8,000 in immediate repairs. I got a second opinion from a different company and they said everything was fine. Turns out the first guy was just a sales pitch for his own repair crew. Has anyone else fallen for this kind of bait and switch?

Man that sucks. I hate when people pull that kind of shady stuff, especially when you're just trying to take care of your property.

@ryanj60 exactly, it's such a slimy move. Sorry you got burned like that, it totally sucks when someone uses a "free" offer to try and scare you into a big bill.
