Took me 7 weeks to get a city permit for a simple sign swap downtown
I handle property stuff for a few small buildings near Eastern Market and figured swapping an old sign for a new one would be a couple days of paperwork. The permit office sent it back 3 times, once because the drawing was in the wrong scale and twice because the inspector wanted a wind load note from an engineer. The engineer charged me $450 just to sign off on a sign that weighs maybe 30 pounds. All in, from first filing to final approval, it ate 7 weeks and about $1,200 in fees and stamps. I get why the rules are there after that building collapse over on Woodward, but it still felt like a lot for a flat piece of metal. Anyone here found a faster path through the city for small exterior changes, or is this just how it goes now?
