Tried two different Detroit commercial snow removal crews this winter, one was night and day better
Last winter I ran a small warehouse off Michigan Ave and hired a big national snow plow company for $1,800 a season, then switched to a local Detroit crew for $1,400 after the first guy left us buried twice. The national company sent a different truck every storm and nobody knew our lot layout, so they plowed our dumpster into a wall in January. The local crew showed up in 40 minutes during that big February storm, knew exactly where our loading dock drains were, and salted the walk before my guys clocked in at 6am. I get that the national name feels safer on paper, but the local crew answered my call at 4:30am and that mattered way more than the logo. Anyone else had a local Detroit service outwork a bigger chain, or did I just get lucky with these guys?
Course. Haha no you didn't just get lucky, you learned what 1,800 bucks from a national outfit actually buys you, which is a guy in a truck who's never seen your lot before. Funny how paying less got you a crew that knew your dumpster wasn't a snowbank and your drains weren't a suggestion. That 4:30am phone call is the whole ballgame, because when your guys clock in at 6 and the walk is already salted, you look like a genius and nobody's slipping on their way to the loading dock. Local guys answer because their name is on the line, not some call center two states away.
