A guy at the diesel shop in Abilene said my torque wrench was lying to me, so I checked it
I was doing injector work on a 6.7 Cummins last month and a retired guy at the shop in Abilene watched me snug down the hold-down bolts and asked when I last had my torque wrench calibrated. I said never, figuring a good click type wrench stays true, and he just laughed and told me to bring it by his bench. He put it on his tester and it was reading 15 ft-lbs low at the 60 setting, which means every injector clamp I'd done for who knows how long was under-torqued. I sent it out to a calibration shop in Fort Worth and it cost me $75 to get it back in spec. Now it gets checked every 6 months and I keep a cheap beam wrench as a sanity check on critical stuff. How often do you guys actually get yours tested, or am I the only one who ran blind for years?
