A old timer told me to stop using air tools on injector hold downs
I was working on a 6.7 Powerstroke last spring in my buddy's garage near Austin. I had my impact gun out ready to zip the injector hold down bolts back in. He grabbed my wrist and said 'hand torque those or you'll be pulling the head in 10,000 miles.' I thought he was being dramatic but I did it by hand anyway. Anyone else get a tip that sounded like total BS at first but ended up saving their butt?

He wasn't being dramatic. Over torque those little bolts and you stretch them. They snap or back out later. Seen a truck come in with a loose injector. Bolt backed out, hammered the valve. Whole head job. That old timer saved your ass.

Same thing happened with my buddy's mailbox install last month. The instructions said 10 ft-lbs for the hinge bolts, he figured "close enough" and cranked them. The whole thing sagged after a week. @the_jake it's the same pattern everywhere - people think tighter is always better but it just ruins the threads or cracks whatever you're working on.
