Can we talk about the time a fleet manager in Omaha showed me his filter log?

I was there to look at a truck with a suspected fuel issue, and he pulled out a binder with every filter change for the last 18 months. He pointed to a specific date and said, 'See this? We swapped brands for one oil change cycle, and the next filter was clogged twice as fast.' I started tracking filter life against fuel sources and oil batches for my own clients. Has anyone else seen a specific fuel supplier cause more problems than others?

Actually, a clogged oil filter wouldn't be from the fuel supplier.

Yeah, but a bad fuel batch can wash more soot and junk past the rings, right? That extra crap ends up in the oil. So the filter clogs faster because the oil is dirtier, not because the filter itself is bad. I've seen it happen with off-brand fuel from a certain depot on the south side. Their stuff just seems to leave more behind in the crankcase.
