Glow plugs seemed pointless until my rig froze solid
I always skipped checking them since our winters are mild. One morning, the engine just cranked and wouldn't fire up. It turned out the plugs were so worn they drained the battery trying to heat. A buddy helped me replace them, and it started right away. Now I see they're a small part that can cause big headaches.

Heard mechanics say worn plugs can wreck your starter motor too.

Honestly, yeah, that makes total sense when you think about it. Worn plugs make the engine way harder to start, so the starter has to crank way longer and fight more. All that extra work pulls a ton of current and just cooks the starter from the inside out. Tbh, most people just replace the dead starter and don't even check the plugs, so the same thing happens again. It's a dumb way to burn money on parts.

My friend's starter died from worn plugs, @coleperry.
