Old timer at the shop told me my injector puller technique was ruining seals
I had been struggling with injector cup seals leaking after replacement for months. This guy with 30 years on me watched me yank an injector and said I was twisting too hard on the way out. He showed me to wiggle it side to side with a steady pull, no twisting. First time I tried it on a 6.7 Powerstroke, the seals came out clean and no leaks after. Has anyone else had a bad habit a senior guy corrected that saved you money?

and that's the thing, you see it everywhere once you start paying attention. My neighbor was the same way with his lawnmower, always yanking the pull start with this big violent jerk until some old guy showed him to pull it smoothly with a little extra arm extension. Now it starts first pull every time. I think we get in these habits because we're trying to be fast or force things to happen, but the real trick is usually slowing down and feeling how the tool or part actually wants to move. It's like how I used to strip screws trying to drive them in with too much downward pressure until someone told me to just let the bit do the work. Easy to forget that old dudes have seen what happens when you rush things.

Aw man, I gotta disagree with you a bit here. I don't think it's always about slowing down. Sometimes the problem isn't rushing, it's just not knowing the right way to do something in the first place. Like your neighbor yanking the lawnmower - maybe he just never got shown the smooth pull technique, and that has nothing to do with being fast or impatient. I see plenty of folks who take their sweet time and still mess things up because they're doing it wrong at a slow speed.

Totally agree about habits, my dad had me convinced you had to yank a lawnmower like starting a chainsaw.
