Old timer told me I was torquing injectors wrong, changed my whole process

Guy named Pete, been doing this since the 70s, watched me crank down an injector on a 5.9 Cummins and just shook his head. Said I was overtorquing by a good 15 ft-lbs and that's why I kept getting copper washers to leak after a few months. Switched to a click-type torque wrench instead of my beam style and started following the exact sequence he showed me. Has anyone else had an old school mechanic call them out on something that made them work different?

Pete set me straight on that too, and @hugo_craig had it happen with his beam wrench.

Funny you mention beam style wrenches. A buddy of mine swore by his beam torque wrench for years until he found out he'd been setting it wrong the whole time. The needle was bent from day one.
