That time a simple coolant hose nearly cooked a 6.7 Powerstroke

I was doing a routine service on a fleet truck in Phoenix, just a basic oil change and filter swap. The owner mentioned it was running a bit warm but nothing crazy. When I pulled the lower radiator hose to drain the block, the whole fitting crumbled in my hand. It was a factory plastic quick-connect that had been heat-cycled to death. Coolant went everywhere, obviously. I had to scramble to find a proper metal replacement fitting from a local parts house before the shop closed. Has anyone else had those plastic coolant connectors fail on them, or am I just unlucky?

Factory plastic quick-connect" is your whole story right there. Those things are a known weak spot on so many engines.

My 2005 Civic's story is basically a shrine to failed plastic connectors. I mean, @henderson.eva is right, they just crumble after a few hot summers. I've replaced three of them myself like some kind of sad, repeat customer.
