Thinking about how the old crew would get together after closing to figure out a stubborn diesel. Those times are hard to find now.

You say those times are "hard to find now" and that's a good thing. Staying late for free to fight a dirty engine just meant the shop was too cheap to buy proper tools or schedule correctly. It wasn't some noble tradition, it was bad business and stolen personal time. Now a tech can look up a service bulletin in five minutes instead of guessing all night. I don't miss wasting my evening because someone refused to update their methods.

Ever feel like those old methods just cost everyone more... time and money?

Totally with you on this, @aaron150. I remember wasting a whole Saturday once because the foreman refused to check for a recall first. We pulled an engine apart only to find out there was a known wiring issue all along. That kind of thing just burned you out for no good reason. It felt like pride always came before common sense in those shops. Now, having the right info at your fingertips changes everything. You actually fix the car instead of just fighting with it.
