Took an entire afternoon to figure out my injector timing was off by 2 degrees

Wait, did you check your balancer ring or just the timing marks on the cover? If that balancer has slipped at all, your 2 degrees is really more like 5 or 6 off. I've been burned by that before, spent all day chasing my tail on a Ford 302. That little rubber ring can make a big mess of things.
