Got burned by expensive brushes for years until I tried a $6 set from a hobby store

I always thought you had to drop $30+ on a single digital brush to get good texture in your work... then a friend at a meetup in Portland let me try her $6 set from a local craft chain. The bristle patterns actually held up better in my layers than the fancy ones I was using. Has anyone else found hidden gems in cheap art supply bins?

oh man the "you gotta spend big to get good stuff" thing is such a trap. i see it everywhere not just art supplies. people think expensive headphones sound better but sometimes a $20 pair sounds just fine for everyday use. my mom bought a fancy name brand kitchen knife set and i legit like my $8 thrift store chef knife better because the handle fits my hand right. sometimes cheap stuff is just designed more simply and that works better for real life use.

Cheaper gear can honestly be more straightforward and just work. Mileage definitely varies person to person on this stuff.
