Heard a pro say not to use soft proofing for prints at a gallery opening last night

This guy who does giclee prints for museums told me soft proofing is a trap and he just uses hard copy proofs with a light booth. Has anyone else dumped soft proofing after actually trying it that way?

Used to swear by soft proofing. Spent hours tweaking monitor profiles to match my lab's paper profiles. Never quite got there though. Switched to a cheap D50 light booth and hard proofs last year. Way more accurate, faster workflow. Haven't touched soft proofing since.

Wait, you're telling me a cheap light booth was actually better than all that fancy soft proofing stuff? That's wild. Most folks I know drop serious cash on monitors trying to chase that perfect match. How bad was the mismatch with your old setup, like did it totally ruin the colors on prints or just drive you crazy enough to switch? I gotta admit, that makes me rethink throwing more money at a better display instead of just getting a booth.
