I finally understood why my digital art looked flat after a client in Seattle asked if I'd ever tried using more than one light source.

I spent three hours redoing a character portrait with just a rim light and a soft fill, and the depth it added was insane, so has anyone else had a simple tip completely change their process?

That "rim light and soft fill" combo sounds key. What's your usual go-to before you tried that?

Oh man, I just blasted everything with one harsh light... looked like a deer in headlights.

Honestly, my professor's "use three light sources" rule saved my whole portfolio last year.
