My latest piece got picked for a community gallery showcase

I spent about 14 hours last Thursday on a digital portrait of my neighbor's golden retriever, working mostly on the fur texture and lighting. The local art collective posted it on their social feed and over 200 people liked it in the first two hours, which really surprised me. Has anyone else had a piece suddenly take off after you thought it was just okay?

Have you noticed how the stuff we spend the most time stressing over usually gets the least reaction, while the things we just do for fun end up hitting people the right way? I've seen that happen with cooking, with music, even with how people dress. We get so caught up in perfecting every little detail, but sometimes the real magic is when we're just in the flow and not trying so hard. Maybe it's like how a good joke works better when you don't force the punchline. Were you totally relaxed while working on that golden retriever piece?

Used to roll my eyes at the whole "just have fun with it" advice, but yeah, @linda_murphy you're totally right. My serious hours-stressing pieces usually get like 20 likes and a couple polite comments from my mom. But that dog portrait? I was just messing around with brushes and honestly didn't think much of it until my neighbor saw it and asked to post it. The whole "trying too hard" thing really does kill whatever makes art connect with people. Now I catch myself overthinking and step away to do something stupid like paint a coffee mug for 10 minutes just to reset. Funny how the universe works that way.
