My Procreate file corrupted mid-showcase at the Denver Art Walk last Saturday
I was showing my latest digital painting on my iPad at a booth in the RiNo district when the app just crashed and the file wouldn't reopen. About 8 hours of work on a portrait just gone, and I had a small crowd watching me panic. I ended up pulling a backup from my iCloud from two days ago and spent the rest of the night explaining why the art style changed. Has anyone else had a digital file die on them during a live event?

That line about "explaining why the art style changed" really hit home. I used to think cloud backups were overkill for live demos, but after my Wacom driver crashed mid-sketch at a comic con in Portland last year, I completely changed my tune. I had to stand there and tell people the rough draft was "artistic intention" while frantically trying to pull a recovery file from my Dropbox. Now I always have a local copy on a flash drive and a separate cloud backup before any live event. It's a pain, but way better than that awkward silence.

Wait, you actually had to tell people that a technical glitch was "artistic intention"? I mean, I used to think folks were being way too careful with backups for live stuff too. Figured it was just one of those things that only happened to other people. But after my tablet pen died mid-portrait at a small con in Austin, and I spent ten minutes trying to pass off a half-finished sketch as a "minimalist style", I totally get it now. Now I keep a USB stick in my bag and an extra battery pack just for the stylus. It's annoying, but not as annoying as that dead silence while you're praying the file actually saves.
