My tablet pen gave out halfway through a big commission piece
It happened last night while I was working on a detailed background layer. I had to finish the linework with my mouse, which took three extra hours. Has anyone else had a pen die at the worst possible time and what did you do?

Yeah, @schmidt.eva is totally right about the backup stylus. That dread when your main tool fails is a special kind of panic. I keep an old, basic model in my drawer just for emergencies, and it's saved me more than once. Finishing detailed work with a mouse feels like trying to write your name with a brick. It really does make you learn to prepare for the worst.

That's the absolute worst feeling, just pure dread. My old pen's battery door cracked once during a final color pass. Had to tape it shut and pray it held a charge. Finishing with a mouse is its own special kind of torture, three extra hours sounds about right. Honestly, it's what finally made me buy a backup stylus, even a cheap one.

Read an article once calling it "digital artist's heartbreak." That panic really does push you to get a spare, even a basic one. Never want to do linework with a mouse again.
