TIL that posting process videos vs final polished art gets way different reactions online, which side do you think matters more for a digital art showcase?

I was browsing through some art forums last night and noticed the rough sketch timelapses get hundreds more comments than the finished pieces, but the finished ones get more shares and saves, so which one actually builds a better portfolio in the end?

Why do people always like the messy process stuff more than the actual finished work? Shows them the struggle is real I guess, makes it feel more relatable. Finished pieces just feel like a flex.

Found out the hard way that posting just my polished stuff got me nowhere, so I started throwing in a few process clips and timelapses... honestly the comments and engagement shot up like crazy. People really do want to see the messy middle, it makes them feel like they're in on the secret. My finished pieces still go up but I save the progress shots for the actual building of my portfolio, since that's what gets people to stick around and actually remember my name. The raw stuff has been way better for getting my work seen by other artists too, not just the general audience.
