Watched a kid wipe my Procreate sketch at the Austin Comic-Con booth
I was demoing my art at a small table in the Austin Convention Center last Saturday, showing off a digital portrait I spent 4 hours on. Some kid ran up and swiped my iPad screen, hitting the undo button so many times the entire piece disappeared. I had no auto-save on, and I nearly lost my mind right there in front of 30 people. Now I always turn on the time-lapse recording and keep a backup file on my phone before I let anyone near my tablet. Has anyone else had a public demo disaster like that?

I mean, that's basically like leaving your car unlocked in a parking lot and hoping nobody messes with the radio. It's not even about kids being jerks, it's about how we just assume things will stay how we left them. I had a similar thing happen at a coffee shop where I left my sketchbook on the table to grab a napkin and came back to a kid scribbling over my drawing with a crayon his mom handed him. That's just how the world works now, you gotta assume someone's gonna touch something unless you literally lock it up. Maybe it's just me but I feel like this is part of a bigger thing where we don't really own our stuff anymore because there's always someone ready to mess with it for a second.

Right? "That's just how the world works now" - I feel that in my soul lol. Next time I'm gonna set my iPad to factory reset if someone even breathes on it. Or better yet, just put a sign that says "touch this and I'll draw a mustache on your mom's Facebook profile pic." Honestly though, I've started keeping a fake decoy iPad on the table with just a screensaver of a cat playing piano. Works every time.
