A client told me their old agency never explained why they were running ads
I was talking to a new client last week and they said their last agency just sent reports without any real talk about the plan. It hit different because I realized we might be doing the same thing without meaning to. Has anyone else had a client point out something simple you were missing?

Yeah that "without any real talk" part is key. My buddy's client straight up asked him "what's the point of this ad" and he realized he'd never actually said it out loud.

Honestly that's why the best ads feel like a friend telling you something. If you can't explain it to a real person in one sentence, you're already lost. The jargon just builds a wall between you and the customer.

Man oh man, this is EXACTLY what I went through with my own little side hustle. I was writing these fancy ad descriptions trying to sound smart and nobody was biting. Then I just sat down and recorded myself talking to a buddy about what I actually do, word for word like in a normal conversation. I used that exact recording as the basis for my ad copy and it worked way better than anything I'd written before. It's so easy to forget that real people don't talk in bullet points and marketing lingo. The moment I stopped trying to impress and started just being myself, the responses came rolling in.
