Got burned by a marketing agency's vague goals

They took on my landscaping company's online presence with a loose plan. Months went by and I couldn't tell if their work did anything. I had to figure out how to set clear, measurable targets myself. Now I know to nail down exact outcomes before any deal.

I used to shrug off vague goals too, but getting burned HARD changed my mind. @rileyw57's point about empty SEO promises mirrors my own wake-up call. Now I demand concrete targets up front, period.

Totally been there with a web design agency. They promised "better SEO" but never said what that meant. After three months we had nice photos but zero new phone calls. Now I demand traffic numbers or lead goals in writing before paying a dime. That vague stuff is so frustrating.

It's wild how many places hide behind those empty promises... makes you wonder if they even know how to track results. @reesec18 is right about concrete targets, but sometimes the goals they pick are just easy wins that don't actually help your business. You need to ask what "traffic" even means... is it just random clicks or people who might buy something? The good ones will explain their plan, not just throw out buzzwords.
