Rant: In-house vs agency social media management is a mess right now

I had to choose between handing our accounts to a $5k a month agency or training one of my own staff for half the cost, and I went with the in-house hire after the agency missed three deadlines in a row, did anyone else feel like agencies just stop caring once they have your contract?

Wait, they missed three deadlines in a row? That's insane. I mean, I get that agencies can be busy, but three strikes and you're out would be the rule for me too. My cousin hired a big name agency for his restaurant chain and they literally forgot to post for two weeks straight. Like their scheduler just broke and nobody checked. So frustrating when you pay a premium and still have to babysit them.

Three missed deadlines tells me they don't have any real system in place, just people scrambling. Your cousin's story sounds exactly like what happens when agencies over promise and under deliver on basic stuff. The scheduler breaking and nobody noticing for two weeks is pathetic, that's not a glitch that's negligence. Paying premium prices means you should get premium attention, not have to chase them down like a bill collector. At some point you gotta just fire them and find someone who actually checks their calendar.
