The week every client email said the same 3 words and I almost lost it
Last Tuesday in Portland, three separate clients emailed me within two hours asking "any update?" when I had already sent status reports that morning. Made me wonder if anyone actually reads what we send or if they just fire off questions to feel busy. I spent the next day building a one page weekly summary with bold headers and bullet points, no fluff, and the emails dropped to zero for the rest of the week. Has anyone else tried a radically shorter format and had it work, or do some clients just ignore everything?

The clients probably aren't ignoring you, they're just wired to check in because their own bosses are breathing down their necks. Your short summary works for now, but it might just be teaching them that a quick nudge gets a fast response, so they'll keep doing it. Plus, some folks genuinely don't trust a one page format because it reads like you're hiding details. I've seen guys cut everything down to bullet points and then get burned when a client missed a buried line about a scope change. Longer emails give people a paper trail to point at later, even if they don't read them closely. You traded your sanity for their comfort, and that might not hold up when a real problem lands.
