Thought SEO was mostly fluff until a client got 40 leads in a week from a single blog post

I ran a small agency out of Atlanta for about two years. Never really bought into SEO. Figured it was just keyword stuffing and chasing algorithm updates. A bakery client asked me to write a post about sourdough starter mistakes. I put some basic keywords in, optimized the title tag, and forgot about it. Six months later they call me saying that one post brought in more calls than their Google Ads campaign that month. 40 people walking in asking about bread classes. That changed my mind real quick. Has anyone else had a moment where a cheap tactic beat the expensive one?

Wait, so I used to totally think SEO was a waste of time too? Like I figured it was just guessing games and all that junk. But yeah, my cousin runs a small landscaping business and I threw together a quick post about cheap ways to get rid of weeds. Just did the basic stuff like a good title and some keywords. Fast forward four months and he's telling me that one blog post is still bringing in calls every week. It honestly made me rethink everything. Now I actually put some effort into it, nothing crazy, but way more than I used to. It's wild how something that feels so simple can just keep working for months on end.

@umac71 nailed it, and that's exactly why I changed my mind too. The thing people miss is that SEO isn't magic, it's just putting work in once and letting it pay off again and again. A single solid post can keep generating leads for years with almost zero extra effort. Most people quit before they even see results, which is why so many think it's useless. Once you see that first trickle of traffic turn into a steady stream, you get it. It changes how you look at everything you create online.
