Threw 800 bucks at a Facebook ads guru and got nothing back
Back in 2019 I hired this guy who claimed he could run Facebook ads for my little agency. He charged me 800 dollars upfront for a 'strategy package' and promised a 3x return within 2 weeks. After a month I had zero leads and he kept saying I needed to 'trust the process'. I finally asked for a refund and he ghosted me. Has anyone else had a so-called expert take their money and run like that?

@quinn_king16 hit the nail on the head about the time cost. I read somewhere that most Facebook gurus are really just salespeople who bought a course themselves last year. The algorithm changes so fast that their "secret strategy" is usually outdated within weeks anyway. Instead of paying a stranger 800 bucks, you could have bought a $20 Udemy course and run $50 test ads targeting different groups. That way you learn what actually works for your own audience without someone ghosting you. Plus, the free Facebook Blueprint tutorials are actually pretty solid for getting started.

the real angle here is that the money was just the price of admission. the real cost was the time you wasted not learning how to do it yourself. facebook ads change their algorithm every few months and no outside guru keeps up with your specific business better than you can. that 800 bucks could have been spent on a few cheap courses and a small testing budget where you learn by actually messing up. gurus promise results because they know most people are scared to try and fail on their own. plus a lot of these guys are just reselling the same free info from youtube that you can get without the middleman markup. next time treat the learning curve itself as the investment and save the cash for actual ad spend.
