Vent: That time our Facebook ad manager blamed the algorithm for 2 weeks
A few years back I was running a small cleaning biz and hired this agency in Nashville to handle our digital ads. For two straight weeks our lead costs tripled and they kept saying 'the algorithm is just adjusting' without showing me any real fixes. I finally asked to see their ad set breakdown and found they had our budget spread across 8 different audiences with no tracking. Fired them on the spot and rebuilt everything myself with a simple spreadsheet. Has anyone else had to teach themselves paid ads after an agency dropped the ball?

Did you read that report about how most ad agencies waste half their client budgets on bad targeting?

Ugh that report was so spot on honestly. My brother owns a small roofing business and he hired this mid size agency in Cleveland last year, they spent like 12k a month on Facebook ads that barely brought in any leads. When he asked for the breakdown it turned out they were targeting people in like a 200 mile radius when his crew only works within 30 miles of the city. I checked the numbers myself, over half his budget was just going to people who would never call him because they were too far away. Agencies get super sloppy with that stuff because they just want to show high impression numbers without caring about real results.
