Warning: a guy in Austin told me our $2,500 a month ad spend was just paying for clicks from people who would never buy
Last Tuesday I sat in on a call with a guy from an Austin agency who said most local service brands burn their whole budget on broad keywords that pull tire kickers. He pulled up one of our old reports and showed that 70 percent of our clicks came from searches over 40 miles away from where we actually work. Does anyone here track lead distance before deciding if a campaign is worth keeping?
A guy from an agency says your ads are broken? Shocking. He probably wants you to hire him to fix it. The 40 mile thing sounds bad until you ask how many of those far away clicks actually turned into calls or forms, since some of those people might drive in for a big job or tell a friend who lives closer. My old shop served a 60 mile radius and half our best customers came from the edge of it because nobody else would go out there. Tracking lead distance is fine, just don't let one slide in a sales pitch make you blow up a campaign that might be working.
