Can we talk about working from a cafe versus a co-working space in Medellin?

After a month of paying $5 a day for coffee to justify my cafe table, I switched to a $200 monthly co-working membership and the reliable Wi-Fi, power outlets, and not feeling rushed made a huge difference for my focus.

Totally agree, the mental shift is huge. You stop being a customer and start actually working.

Yeah, that mental shift @amy_cooper46 talks about is everywhere. You see it when someone buys a fancy camera but never learns to use it, versus the person who just starts making photos every single day. The tool stops being a shiny thing you bought and becomes something you actually put the work into.

Honestly, I gotta push back on that $5 a day coffee thing a little bit. If you're working from a cafe for 4 hours and buying one $5 coffee, that's not exactly “justifying” the table - most cafes I've been to in Medellin have a two drink minimum or a time limit anyway. The real cost adds up fast when you factor in the anxiety of ordering more than just a coffee, especially if you're there for a full workday. I've seen people nursing a single espresso for four hours and the staff totally gives them the side eye. Co-working spaces are just simpler for getting actual work done without that weird social guilt hanging over you.
