Chose a hostel dorm over a private room in Medellin and it changed my whole trip

I was torn between saving money and getting work done in Colombia last fall. Picked the $12 dorm bed over the $45 private room at a place called Los Patios. The noise was bad during the day but I met three other remote workers who ended up being my best travel buddies. We rented a coworking space together for $80 a month split four ways. Has anyone else made a similar choice and had it go either way?

Exactly the same thing happened to my buddy Mark in Buenos Aires. He was dead set on a cheap private room for his video editing projects but the hostel was full so he took a 6 bed dorm. Day two he met a guy from Sweden who was editing a doc and a girl from Brazil doing graphic design. They ended up splitting a coworking membership that had a quiet room and free coffee. He told me it saved his sanity and he still talks to them almost every week. What kind of coworking space did you guys find down there?

Totally agree @hugo_craig, it's wild how the best setups come from total accidents. Ngl, I once booked a hostel bunk that turned out to be right over the bar's speaker, ended up working in a random cafe two blocks away that had a secret back room for freelancers. Found a coworking space with zero windows but unlimited mate, which honestly felt like a fair trade for my sanity.
