Coworking in Bali was great until the power went out 4 times in one week...

I was in Ubud for 3 weeks last month. The first week was amazing - great coffee, fast wifi, nice people. But then week two hit and the electricity kept cutting out, like clockwork around 2pm. Lost a whole afternoon of work on a client call. The cafe workers just shrugged and said it happens. Has anyone else dealt with this in a popular nomad spot?

The wifi is only as good as the grid, and the grid in Bali is held together with elastic bands and good intentions. I was in Canggu for a month and by the third week I started packing a backup battery and mobile hotspot everywhere. It's just part of the deal when you work from a place where the infrastructure wasn't built for a hundred thousand laptops. Anyone who spends more than a couple weeks there learns to either adapt or leave.

I switched to a Telkomsel 4G hotspot after losing connection during a Zoom call with my London client three times in one morning. Loaded up a 50GB prepaid pack at the Indomaret down the road and it handled everything from Slack to video calls without dropping out. Just had to keep the thing plugged in because the battery drains fast when you're hot and hunting for signal near the rice paddies.
