Finally realized I was way overpacking for my trips

I used to bring a full 50-liter backpack everywhere for months until I stayed with a guy in Chiang Mai who had been traveling for 2 years with just a 22-liter daypack and a small pouch. That moment made me rethink every shirt and cable I was hauling around - has anyone else had that "why am I carrying all this" wakeup call?

Not having the right gear when you need it is way worse than carrying a few extra pounds. That 22-liter daypack worked for that guy because he was in a cheap warm climate, not everyone's situation. You do you, packing light is great until you're freezing in a hostel or paying three times as much for a charger you left at home.

What's the one thing you absolutely won't leave behind now?
