Got burned by a public wifi scam in a Bali co-working space last month

I was working out of a co-working spot in Ubud last month and connected to their 'guest wifi' without thinking twice. After 2 days, my VPN started acting weird and I found out someone set up a fake network with the same name. Now I always double check the exact network name with the front desk before connecting... has anyone else run into fake wifi setups out here?

Thirty bucks says the front desk guy was in on it too. Guess having a "tech guy" at co-working spots isn't always a good thing.

Used to think tech guys were helpful, but yeah this definitely changed my mind.
