I finally had a conversation with a 20 year nomad that made me question my whole plan

I was at a coworking space in Chiang Mai last week (the one with the weird fish tank in the lobby, you know the one) and I got chatting with this older guy who's been doing the nomad thing since like 2005. He told me he's been to 60 countries but couldn't name a single bar in any of them he goes back to regularly. That hit me weird because I've been bragging about my "favorite coffee spots" in like 4 cities, but he said after a while you stop collecting places and start just looking for reliable wifi and a decent chair. He said he hasn't made a real friend in 8 years, just endless surface level conversations that fill the time. Now I'm sitting here wondering if I'm building a life or just a series of vacation days that never end. Has anyone else had a moment where another nomad said something that made you question the whole lifestyle?

Stop chasing cities and start investing in a few relationships. Pick 3 spots max and actually put down roots for a year each, thats when the real connections happen.

3 years of bouncing around 15 cities and honestly this hits hard @kim_hart7, never really thought about it that way before.
