Lost two days of work in Saigon because my laptop charger died and no shop had the right wattage.

I was halfway through editing a client project at a cafe in District 1 when the adapter just sparked out, and after hitting five different electronics stores, it took ordering one from Amazon and waiting 48 hours for shipping to get back up... has anyone else had gear fail in a city where replacements are impossible to find?

Saigon has plenty of adapters if you bother looking outside the tourist district.

Yeah "plenty of adapters" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there. They exist but good luck finding one that actually matches your laptop's specific wattage without ordering it. I've been through that loop in Bangkok and it's the same story. You can find a hundred generic chargers that claim to work but fry your battery after a week. Two days of downtime is annoying but it's not the end of the world. You can hotspot off your phone and do some rough drafts or email clients to set expectations. Sometimes people act like losing a laptop charger is the same as losing a limb.
