My laptop charger died in a tiny town in Laos with no tech shops

It happened three days ago in Muang Ngoi, a place you reach by boat. The charger just stopped working, no warning. I had to ask around at guesthouses until someone lent me a universal adapter that sort of fit. Has anyone else had a key piece of gear fail somewhere really remote? What did you do?

My power bank died on a trek in Nepal, miles from any outlet. I ended up bartering with a guide for his spare battery pack using some of my trail mix. Sometimes the old school trade economy is your only real tech support.

Totally get that, how much trail mix did it take? I was on a bus in the middle of nowhere once and my phone was dead, like one percent. I swapped a guy my half full water bottle for a quick charge off his little battery pack. Felt like a genius move, better than any store. You're right, sometimes you just have to go back to trading stuff.

Ha! My buddy traded a whole bag of chips for an hour of wifi at a hostel in Colombia.
