Showerthought: everyone told me coworking spaces in Bali were a scam, I disagreed until I did the math
I used to think paying $200 a month for a coworking spot in Canggu was just burning money when I could work from my villa for free. Then the wifi at my place went down for 3 straight days during a big client deadline and I had to beg a cafe owner in Ubud to let me sit there for 6 hours buying $18 worth of smoothies just to steal their signal. That whole mess cost me almost a full day of work and I later found out the coworking place I avoided had backup fiber plus a generator. Now half the people I meet here swear the $200 is worth it for the AC and stable internet alone, but the other half say they just hot spot off two different SIM cards for 15 bucks and never had a problem. I'm honestly torn because $2,400 a year is real money but one blown deadline probably costs more than that. Curious if the folks who skipped coworking long term actually stayed lucky or if you all eventually caved like I did.
That $18 smoothie run in Ubud is basically the coworking fee for one day anyway, except you also got wifi that cut out halfway through a call. My friend did the two SIM card thing for eight months and swore by it until a Zoom demo froze on her and the client went quiet, so. Maybe the real scam is thinking you can outsmart a bad connection when a deadline is on the line.
