TIL I've spent over $400 on coworking day passes this year

I just added up my receipts from the last 8 months and it came to $427. I always thought I was being smart by not committing to a monthly membership, just buying a day pass when I really needed good wifi and a quiet space. But now I see I could have gotten a full month at most of these spots for less than what I spent. The thing is, everyone says you have to be flexible and avoid fixed costs, but this feels like the opposite. I was in Lisbon for 3 weeks and spent 90 euros on day passes at Second Home, when a month was 150. I was so focused on not being tied down that I wasted money. Has anyone else found that trying to be too flexible actually cost them more?

How many days a month do you actually need the space? If it's more than a couple, a monthly pass almost always wins. That flexibility trap is real, you end up paying for the idea of freedom instead of the actual use. Gotta do the math before you commit to being uncommitted.

My friend Jake kept buying day passes for the climbing gym at $25 each. He went like 12 times last month but swore the monthly $80 deal "locked him in." I did the math for him and he basically lit $220 on fire for no reason. The look on his face when he realized was kinda sad. He just really hated the idea of a commitment, even to himself.
