Update: I tried a local SIM card in Lisbon for 3 months versus my old global eSIM plan
The local SIM gave me 100GB of data for 20 euros total, while the eSIM cost me over 80 bucks for spotty service that dropped calls constantly, so has anyone found a better global data provider that actually works?

Check if your phone supports dual SIM.

Oh ABSOLUTELY, because who doesn't love paying five times more for the exact same cellular data just because it has "global" stamped on it. I swear these eSIM companies must think we're all made of money or just too lazy to walk five minutes to a shop. Last time I checked, my phone does support dual SIM but I still end up running around town like a crazy person trying to find a convenience store that actually sells a local SIM that works. And then you gotta deal with the guy who barely speaks English trying to explain the activation code to you. It's like they want you to fail so you'll just give up and pay for the expensive one.

Yeah that price difference is brutal. I've noticed global eSIMs are basically just reselling local networks at a huge markup. For longer trips, buying a local SIM at a convenience store is almost always cheaper and way more reliable.
