Week 3 in Medellin, the wifi died mid call and my landlord fixed it with a screwdriver and a rubber band
Somehow that one dumb fix held for the whole rest of my stay, and I am starting to think good luck on the road has nothing to do with planning, so what is the weirdest repair that saved your work week abroad?
I used to be that person who packed a whole backup router and a spare laptop before every trip, thinking planning was everything. Then my clutch died in rural Portugal and a guy at a gas station wired it back together with zip ties and some wire from a fence. I kid you not, it held for two more weeks of driving. After that I stopped stressing so much about having every possible backup and started trusting that people on the ground usually know a fix. The rubber band thing sounds wild but it tracks. Some of the best fixes are just whatever works in the moment, and that kind of luck shows up more when you stop trying to control every little thing.
