A simple thing at the Costa Rica airport changed how I see digital privacy
Last month, I went to Costa Rica for a break. At the airport, I needed my phone for boarding passes and hotel info. I saw that my location was being tracked by many apps. For example, I got ads for shops near my gate. This made me worry about who else can see where I am. Now, I turn off location services when I travel. It's a trade-off between easy travel and keeping my data safe.

Seriously? I find all that tracking super helpful. Getting ads for the coffee shop right by my gate saved me from terrible airport coffee. And when my flight got delayed, my maps app knew exactly where I was to find a new lounge. It feels less like being watched and more like having a helper. The trade-off for that convenience is worth a little data.

Lol, my phone's location history is probably a better travel diary than my actual memories. I keep getting reminded of places I visited by targeted ads weeks later. Turning off tracking feels like a full-time job now.
