Appreciation post: that one coffee shop that makes you sign a waiver to use their WiFi

I stopped by this tiny cafe in Portland last weekend called The Back Alley and their WiFi login screen was a full page of legalese. I had to check a box agreeing that they could track my browsing for "marketing insights" or whatever. The barista just shrugged and said "gotta pay the rent somehow." I mean, is this normal now or am I just behind on how cafes handle privacy?

Honestly, thats wild. I'd just use my own hotspot at that point.

Oh man, I've been there. If you've got decent data on your plan, a personal hotspot is honestly the way to go. That way you're not fighting with everyone else on the hotel's slow public wifi (and it's way more secure too).
