At the airport in Phoenix, I saw a digital sign that knew my gate before I did.

I was walking to my connecting flight and a screen by the food court said 'Welcome, Wade Lewis, your gate is B12'. It used my phone's Bluetooth from the airline app. It felt helpful but also creepy, like the building was watching me. Has anyone else had a public screen show them personal info like that?

Phoenix Sky Harbor has been testing that system for about a year. It doesn't use your phone's Bluetooth directly. It reads a Bluetooth beacon signal from the airline app on your phone that has your flight info. The sign just shows data you already gave the airline. It's less like the building is watching and more like a digital boarding pass you walk past.

So what happens if I'm running late and my phone dies?
