Biometric locks at my gym broke and now I'm rethinking convenience

Last Tuesday I was stuck at Planet Fitness in Chicago for 15 minutes because their fingerprint scanner glitched and wouldn't let me into the locker room. I had to wait for a manager to override it with a key fob, which felt like a joke since I gave up my old card for this system. It made me realize I traded a simple key card for a system that can lock me out if the server goes down or my finger is wet. Has anyone else had a similar experience with biometric stuff failing at the worst time?

Would you rather trust a 17 year old front desk kid who loses keys every other week? I'll take a glitchy scanner over a lost key fob that gives some random dude access to my gym bag.

Honestly I think "some random dude getting access to your gym bag" is a little dramatic. Like what's in there, a sweaty shirt and a half eaten granola bar?
