Ditched Google Maps for OSMand after a weekend trip to Asheville
I was using Google Maps for years figuring it knew best. Then last month I went to Asheville and it took me down a road that was basically a dirt path with a sign saying "no through traffic" halfway through. Switched to OSMand for the return trip and it routed me correctly every time using local trail data. Plus the offline maps thing is huge when you're losing signal in the mountains. Has anyone else had a similar experience where the "free" option actually worked worse than the open source alternative?

Honestly that's rough, I feel your pain. Google Maps has let me down way too many times with weird backroad detours that made no sense.

Man Ive had Google Maps send me down a dirt road that was basically just two tire tracks through some guys farm field. Thought I was about to become a missing person case. Meanwhile my friends were all waiting at the restaurant wondering where I was. I was 45 minutes late and showed up looking like I just went mudding. GPS is great until it decides you need to go offroading for a shortcut.
