Finally got my phone to stop listening to me for ads... I think.

About two months ago, I was telling my buddy about needing new work boots while my phone was on the table. The next day, I got boot ads everywhere. So I went into my Google account settings and turned off 'Web & App Activity' and 'Ad Personalization'. It took maybe five minutes. For the past three weeks, the ads I see are just random junk now, not weirdly specific stuff from my conversations. Has anyone else tried this and had it actually stick, or does it creep back in after a while?

Ever wonder if they just track your location instead?

Right? It's a creepy feeling that's hard to shake.

My phone still shows me ads for things I looked up six years ago. The algorithm seems to think my main interests are cheap office chairs and a very specific brand of graphing calculator.
