Grocery store self-checkout made me rethink my whole digital footprint

I was at the Kroger on Main Street last Thursday and the machine asked for my phone number before letting me pay, and I realized I've been handing over data for years without thinking about it. Has anyone else started refusing to give their number at checkout and just hitting the skip button?

Hit the skip button" actually they usually let you skip the phone number thing pretty easily.

Nah, @morgan512 I gotta call you out on that one. Maybe on some apps you can skip, but I've definitely run into plenty where the phone number field is straight up required and the skip button does nothing. Like that one time I tried to make a burner account on a forum and it locked me out until I plugged in a real number. So it's hit or miss at best.
