Heard a guy at the bar describe his own tracking setup, gave me chills

So last night a regular was telling me how his home camera system alerts him any time his kids get near the street, and he pulls up a live view on his phone from across town. He was proud of it, said it costs him $11 a month and he can scroll back 2 weeks of footage. But then he mentioned his neighbor's wifi name showed up in his app as a 'trusted device,' and he didn't even know how it got there. That's when I realized we're all building these little surveillance nets and not checking who else can slip through. Has anyone else noticed their own smart home has devices they didn't add, and what did you do about it?

Flip it around on who OWNS that data. He's paying $11 a month to some cloud service that's probably scanning that footage for their own profit, and his neighbor's phone basically has a key to his house. That camera isn't his security net, it's a rental. The real question is what the company does with all those little kid street moments after he scrolls past them. I'd check the privacy policy before I ever checked another camera feed.
