My coworker called me out for leaving my browser tabs open on the shared office computer
He said I was basically handing over my whole search history to whoever sat down next. Now I use incognito mode for everything at work, even just looking up lunch spots. Has anyone else had to adjust their habits after someone peeked at their screen?

lol incognito is basically free therapy at this point.

Oh man, you joke but there's actually something to that. Incognito isn't really anonymous though (it just doesn't save your history locally). Your ISP can still see what you're doing, and if you're on a work computer, your IT department definitely can too. It's more like a thin curtain than a wall, you know? But I get what you mean about the feeling of freedom, like you can look up weird stuff without judgment. Just wish more people knew it's not actual privacy.

lol "free therapy" - that's pretty spot on. I actually saw a study or something a while back saying people are more honest in incognito mode, even if it's not real privacy. It's like the browser version of putting on sunglasses, you feel invisible even though everyone can still see you. @joel_young is right about the IT thing too, a buddy of mine got called into HR for some stuff he looked up at work thinking incognito made him a ghost. I think the real therapy part is just giving yourself permission to type out whatever weird question is in your head without your search history looking like a crime scene later. Still beats paying a therapist $150 an hour just to admit you googled "why do my elbows hurt" for the 10th time.
